Install the Mac companion
The current download is an Apple silicon and Intel preview requiring macOS 14 or later. Unzip it and move Mini Mac Remote Host.app to Applications. It uses development signing and is not Apple-notarized; macOS may block opening it. A notarized public release is pending.
Connect for the first time
- Keep both devices on the same Wi-Fi and your Mac awake.
- Open Mini Mac Remote Host. Allow Screen Recording and Accessibility (Device Control and Data Access on macOS 27 or later). Reopen the companion if macOS requests it.
- Start sharing. Open Mini Mac Remote on your iPhone or iPad and allow Local Network access.
- Choose the Mac and enter its code, or choose Scan Mac QR code and allow camera access.
My Mac isn’t appearing
Check that sharing is running, both devices are on the same Wi-Fi, and Local Network access is enabled. VPNs, Mac firewall settings and guest Wi-Fi isolation can prevent discovery. Connect by address in pairing settings accepts the hostname/IP and port displayed on your Mac.
I can see the screen but can’t control it
Check the companion’s control permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Reopen the companion after changing permissions. If an older build is still listed, remove that entry and add the current app using the system settings controls.
Saved pairing and automatic connection
Remember this Mac saves a successful pairing in Keychain. Automatically connect to this Mac is a separate setting. Forget this Mac removes the saved pairing from the phone or tablet. Reset pairing in the companion revokes the existing code and requires devices to pair again.
Stop sharing
Use the companion’s menu bar icon to stop sharing or quit. Closing the window keeps the companion running. Launch at login and automatic sharing can be adjusted in its setup window.
Current limits
The current version connects over local Wi-Fi to one client at a time. Your Mac must be awake, signed in and sharing. Audio, clipboard, file transfer, internet remote access and login-screen control are not supported.
